Billings & Company was co-founded by Eric F. Billings, former co-founder and CEO of investment banking firm Friedman, Billings, Ramsey & Co (FBR & Co.). After starting as an equity research, sales, and trading operation, FBR grew to become one of the top ten U.S. equity underwriters in the country, frequently ranking as the top underwriter for companies under $1 billion in market value. FBR's core mission was to provide their corporate clients efficient access to institutional equity and debt capital through a deep understanding of their businesses, strong investor relationships, and a skilled sales team.
FBR was known for pioneering syndicated private placements - raising capital from a syndicate of private, institutional investors rather than a single buyer - supporting growth capital needs, minority recaps, and majority recaps. This unique approach allowed founders and management teams to retain strategic influence over their businesses while partnering with a group of likeminded new investors. Over its 25+ years, FBR raised more than $22 billion in equity capital across 77 syndicated private placement transactions. In 2017, after 21 years as a publicly traded company, FBR was sold.
In 2021, Eric launched Billings & Company with his sons, Scott and Tom, to help high-quality businesses raise large-scale institutional capital for growth, capital structure optimization, and shareholder monetization. Since our founding, the firm has engaged in $1.1 billion of private placement transactions on behalf of its clients.
